The Beetaloo Basin has reached a critical inflection point. As Tamboran Resources Corporation (ASX/NYSE: TBN) moves toward historic first gas delivery in 2026, the company’s recently appointed Chief Executive Officer, Todd Abbott, has hit the ground running with a clear focus on operational rigour and stakeholder engagement.

Strategic Engagement in the Northern Territory

In his first official visit to Australia since taking the helm in January 2026, Mr. Abbott focused on reinforcing Tamboran’s partnerships within the Northern Territory. The visit included high-level briefings with key government and regulatory figures in Darwin to align on the region’s energy future.

Meetings were held with Mining Minister Gerard Maley, Territory Coordinator Stewart Knowles, and Department of Mining and Energy CEO Alistair Trier. These discussions centred on Tamboran’s role in delivering energy security and supporting the Northern Territory’s economic roadmap.

Applying the US Shale Playbook to Australian Assets

Mr. Abbott joins Tamboran with over 20 years of experience in unconventional operations at premier US firms, including Pioneer Natural Resources and Marathon Oil. This expertise is being directly applied to optimise Tamboran’s drilling performance in the Beetaloo Basin.
A Step-Change in Drilling Efficiency
The transition to a development-ready operator is already evidenced by record-breaking drilling metrics. By leveraging the “US Shale Playbook,” Tamboran has achieved:
  • Rapid Execution: Achieving spud-to-total depth (TD) in an average of 26.7 days, with the most recent well at 25 days—well within the 35-day forecast.
  • Advanced Technology: Utilizing Helmerich & Payne’s Flex 3 high-performance rigs and Liberty Energy’s modern stimulation fleets.

Strategic Roadmap for 2026 First Gas
