2026: Year of the Beetaloo

Tamboran Resources: Leading a New Era for the Beetaloo Basin

The Beetaloo Basin is a game changer for Australia’s energy landscape, and as the largest net acreage holder in the region, Tamboran Resources Corporation (NYSE: TBN, ASX: TBN) is gearing up for its most significant year yet.

The company is approaching a historic milestone with the targeted delivery of first gas to the Northern Territory market in mid-2026. This achievement aims to demonstrate that the Beetaloo is ready to deliver substantial benefits to Australians. With approximately 1.9 million net prospective acres across one of the world’s largest unconventional shale basins, Tamboran is working alongside joint venture partners, including Daly Waters Energy, to lead the basin’s commercial development.

“First gas is going to send a strong signal to Australia and important trade partners in Asia that the Beetaloo is ready to meet the demand for natural gas to help deliver secure and affordable energy and support the energy transition,” said Todd Abbott, the newly appointed CEO of Tamboran Resources.

Advanced Technology and Strategic Partnerships

Tamboran has secured seasoned leadership and world-class technical capabilities to move into the development phase of the Shenandoah South Pilot Project. The company has imported proven U.S. shale methodologies and equipment to compress the learning curve and accelerate production.

Strategic partnerships are central to this progress:

  • Helmerich & Payne (H&P): Provided the modern Flex 3 drilling rig, the largest currently operating in Australia.
  • Liberty Energy: Mobilized a modern hydraulic fracturing fleet and U.S. crews to enhance completion efficiencies.
  • APA Group: Partnered to design and construct the critical pipeline infrastructure required to connect Beetaloo gas to the existing transmission network.
  • Baker Hughes: Utilizing new anti-vibration drilling technology to drive record-breaking horizontal drilling performance.

Initial flow tests have shown rock properties similar to the high-quality Marcellus Shale in the United States. “We’ve seen what that did to U.S. energy supply, security, and affordability,” Mr. Abbott noted. “The opportunity we have here is to turn this natural resource into energy security for the Northern Territory, the East Coast of Australia, and Asia as a whole.”

A Commitment to Local Prosperity and Energy Security

In 2025, Tamboran delivered the largest drilling program ever conducted in the Beetaloo Basin, completing a three-well batch program at the Shenandoah South 2 well pad. Furthermore, the company reached a landmark agreement with Native Title Holders and the Northern Land Council, clearing the way for gas sales under the Northern Territory’s Beneficial Use of Gas legislation.

“We are proud of the work we are doing to strengthen initiatives that create jobs, provide training, and deliver lasting economic benefits to the region,” Mr. Abbott said. As the company grows, it remains focused on ensuring more Native Title Holders and local community members benefit from site-based employment and business opportunities.

While prioritizing the Northern Territory market—having signed a 40 million cubic feet per day contract to support local energy security until 2041—Tamboran is also focused on addressing shortfalls on Australia’s East Coast. With long-term plans to supply the Asia-Pacific region via the proposed Northern Territory LNG (NTLNG) export facility, Tamboran aims to provide regional partners a reliable option to transition from coal to lower-emissions natural gas.
